If you have never experienced a warm summer day walking down the streets in the Historic Third Ward, you don’t know what you are missing. It is a favorite place of mine for so many reasons; I was a resident there for 5 years when there were only a handful of people brave enough to live there.
I lived in one of the first condominium conversion developments the Third Ward had ever seen. I was not a founding owner of the building called The Buffalo building, located at 312 East 
Buffalo, but I soon became a first time homeowner in one of my fondest properties I ever lived in. I worked around the corner in my family’s furniture store, Rubin’s Furniture, (www.rubinsfurniture.com), located at 224 East Chicago Street, known for fabulous contemporary furnishings and accessories. I was the fourth generation involved in running the store in the Third Ward and loved every minute of it. It was amazing to watch all of the new developments emerge around me and to be lucky enough to be a part of it. The week of Summerfest was my absolute favorite as I was a young woman ready to dance, sing and drink with the rest of the gang. I recall longingly returning to Rubin’s after an evening at Summerfest to watch all the people walk past us from the large windows of the store and wave and laugh at most of them.
After getting married I realized that the family business was not my final destination and embarked on a new career in real estate in January of 2001. I was a rookie with no clue what real 
estate had to offer and was lucky enough to fall into my first listing at a condo conversion of a building located at 205 North Water, Riverwalk Plaza condominiums. I than realized that this was my niche market as I had lived and worked there for over 5 years. I am entering into my 9th year with Shorewest Realtors and have loved every minute of it. I have never felt luckier to be a part of a family owned company just like the one I decided to leave only to pursue a lifelong dream.
